Research unit ‘Physical Activity and Health’, Department of Movement and Sports Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Ghent University

Content-Aim

The course will be presented by national and international high-quality researchers in different career stages (i.e. professors, postdoctoral researchers and doctoral students). The different sessions of the course will cover diverse aspects of health behavior research. Firstly, the course aims to conceptualize health behavior (i.e. sedentary behavior, physical activity, sleep and dietary habits). Secondly, innovative information will be provided on the most recent methods to conduct health behavior research. Finally, good practices and lessons learned will be shared to disseminate research findings, for example, in high-quality journals. Next to the oral presentations, interactive sessions will be organized to stimulate discussion, networking and collaboration.

Format

The specialist course consists of four sessions:

The first session is an exchange meeting with researchers from Ghent University, and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. The meeting will consist of oral presentations focusing on ethical aspects of health promotion research, and on the dissemination of health promotion research in high-quality journals. Next to the oral presentation, networking activities will be organized to facilitate information exchanges, and to encourage future collaborations.

The second session consists of a lecture given by an international expert in health behavior research, and of a public PhD defense on active transport in adolescents.

The third session includes a public PhD defense on sedentary behavior in adults and older adults.

The final session consists of a lecture from an international expert in the field of sedentary behavior.
