Topic

We are looking for 3 PhD or Postdoctoral researchers from different faculties to supervise an interdisciplinary education module in the second semester. Global Engagement Module is being jointly organized with the university of Groningen and at Ghent University, we will focus on the challenge of Migration and Society. The course entails discussions on evolving migration themes (e.g., family, discrimination, health care) to provide in-depth view on current debates and encourage interdisciplinary dialogues.

What can we offer you?

A hands-on training that covers various competencies that will be useful in your later career, including coaching skills, working with real-life challenges by applying the challenge-based education method, guiding interdisciplinary and international groups, and supporting group dynamics. There are intermediate moments in which you can discuss your professional development with the academic lecturer-in-charge. You will expand your network through cooperation with 9 other universities in an international context. 

As a PhD researcher, participation in the course can be recognized as two transferable skills – Career Management and Leadership in your doctoral schools programme.

Upon completion, you will receive a certificate that you can use to update your CV on teaching and learning skills in higher education.

What do we expect from you?

  1. Your training:
  • Preparation via an asynchronous online learning path (estimated time: 3-4 hours),
  • Presence and active input at the synchronous online training on 28th and 30th November (14:00-16:30 on both days),
  • Presence and active contribution during the intermediate discussion moments.
  1. During the module itself:
  • Presence during the online lectures for these students (5 evenings),
  • Remote supervision of one (or more) two group(s) of students between mid-March and the mid-May, 2024: this involves weekly online meetings with each of the groups, and individual and group feedback onto their weekly assignments,
  • On campus supervision for 5 days when all students come to Ghent for the on-site week (15-19 April 2024): meeting with their own subgroups, organising activities for the entire student group and taking parts in the on-site week.
