Members of the Doctoral School of Life Sciences and Medicine

Level and Test

For PhD students 6 months or more into their PhD. An advanced knowledge of English is required.


*It is also required TO PASS an English orientation test. The test takes 1 hour and comprises multiple choice questions, gap-fill exercises and a dictation. If you fail this test, your final registration for writing skills will not be confirmed. You can first follow another course of English which better suits your needs and competences (for instance Upper-Intermediate Academic English) at your own expense.

Free of charge for the members of the Doctoral Schools.

The course book 'Academic English: writing a research article; Life Sciences and Medicine' (Katrien Deroey, in collaboration with Dominique Neyts) is not included and can be bought at Standaard boekhandel, Kouter 31, 9000 Gent. Please ask for 10% discount as a UCT-student.
