Register now: Grant Writing Day 18 October 2019

(28-08-2019) An event packed with information on how to write effective grant applications. It is aimed at Ghent University PhD & postdoctoral researchers, & professors.

Ghent University's Grant Writing Day, a one-day event packed with information about how to write effective grant applications, will take place on 18 October 2019. This event is aimed at PhD candidates who are considering applying for postdoctoral funding, as well as at postdoctoral researchers and professors who wish to collaborate with European colleagues or developing countries.

During the morning session in the Aula, plenary speaker Dr. Robert Porter will cover the basic principles of good grant writing, starting from the phrasing of a compelling research theme to the actual construction of the proposal itself. He will highlight the major differences between traditional "academic prose" and persuasive grant writing, point out common pitfalls that can lead to early rejection of good ideas, and offer practical strategies for better writing. Dr. Porter will pay special attention to the perspectives of grant reviewers and how to write in ways that will meet their expectations.

The afternoon program will consist of break-out sessions (in various locations, see the program) covering more specific topics (an interactive workshop for doctoral candidates, writing FWO fellowships, writing development cooperation projects, writing Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks (ITN)).

This event is free of charge, but registration is mandatory and the standard no-show fee applies. For more information, and for the registration link, see the event website.
