Dirk De Meester (Gent, 1957) is architect-engineer (UGent, 1980). From 1992 he is assistant professor in architectural design, building techniques and CAD at the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning. From 1983 actively involved in (often fundamental) reformations of teaching programs in the architectural curriculum of the university Ghent. Together with Charles Vermeersch and Dirk De Meyer one of the founders and executors of the fundamental renewal of the architectural educational programme at the UGent in 1989.
In the designstudio and master’s theses the accent lies on spatial quality, smart combinations and materialisation,
Research is part of his daily practice and focusses on the relations between building design and technical requirements, in particular: a way of designing which implicates realisation, adaptation en technical requirements, which special attention for spatial quality.
