Willem Van Besien

Willem Van Besien (1984, Belgium) is an architect who earned his master's degree in science and engineering with great honour at Ghent University with a design and research project under supervision of the Dutch architect Floris Alkemade.
Since 2011 he is project architect at Xaveer De Geyter Architects.

He first joined Neutelings Riedijk Architects (Rotterdam, the Netherlands) where he worked on several public and private large scale building projects, both in the phase of design development as in construction document phase (2007-2009).
In 2009 he joined the Antwerp architectural practice META, where he was asked to lead the construction document phase and the construction observation of 4 small and medium scale projects in Belgium.

In 2010-2011 he worked with SumProject, Robbrecht and Daem Architects and Barbara Van der Wee Architects on the restoration and extension of the The Book Tower in Ghent, a modernist monument by Henri Van de Velde. He researched specific restoration issues and made the construction documents for the underground extension and the restoration of the façades.
At Xaveer De Geyter Architects he continued to work on multiple projects in design and construction phase. He recently completed a residential care centre in Antwerp and is currently supervising the construction of a school building in Ghent, a project in which he is involved since the competition design phase.
