Air monitoring and remediation processes for healthier buildings

Air pollution, indoor air pollution in particular, is a key area for progress in health/environment. The cross-border initiative CleanAirBouw aims to develop new, effective systems for treating indoor air in buildings and to provide scientific support to help establish standards in France and Belgium. Furthermore, the project aspires to enable residents to live in healthier buildings that comply with WHO Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) standards. The project will develop innovative treatment prototypes for pollutants produced by the combustion of biomass (wood).

Occupants will be informed and made aware of the dangers of this pollution. Key insights will be provided to enable them to deal with indoor air pollution, particularly in terms of choosing the most appropriate technique. Particular attention will be paid to raising awareness among students (masters and doctoral students), local authorities through schools and building professionals through training courses.

The project will also provide scientific data to support the development of standards in France and Belgium, through the development of a monitoring system based on high-performance sensors developed in the project and/or selected in the market.
