Bayern - 48°8' N 11°34' E
This excursion is a virtual road-trip through Bayern, in an attempt to understand the diffusion and meaning of rococo in the region's religious architecture. We will zoom in on a few highlights but also look at lesser-known examples. Most likely we will also shortly cross the Swiss border. This road-trip is an exploration, a first acquaintance with both fascinating and uncanny phenomenon.
Maarten Delbeke is professor in the History and Theory of Architecture at the Department of Architecture of ETH Zurich, and adjunct-professor of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of Ghent University. His research and published work focuses on architecture and the visual art in Italy and elsewhere in Europe ca. 1650-1850, and he is an active architecture critic.
