Fracture mechanics of (welded) metal structures and components

General description

The fracture mechanics group of Laboratory Soete (Ghent University, Belgium) performs experimental and computational R&D and expertise on a variety of elastic-plastic fracture phenomena of metals and welded structures and components.

The fracture mechanics group focusses on the evaluation of structural integrity of metal structures and their joints. The laboratory has designed and constructed different experimental set-ups, ranging from the kN to MN force range, and including advanced instrumentation. The majority of the performed experimental techniques can be supported by means of in house developed numerical simulations.

Both experimental and computational expertise on tribological phenomena are available for your project.
