Alumnus and CEO Total Antwerp Jacques Beuckelaers about energy transition

(22-03-2021) Total Antwerp wants to reduce its CO2 footprint.

In order to reduce Total Antwerp's carbon footprint, alumnus and CEO Jacques Beuckelaers wants to cover all of the power consumption of Total Antwerp with solar energy from 2023 onwards. After all, the electricity consumption of the oil refinery is equivalent to the electricity consumption of 60,000 families.

Furthermore, Jacques Beuckelaers wants to get the green light this year for the construction of a large biodiesel plant.

"This will be based on residual flows such as used cooking oil and fats from the food industry. This year a decision will be taken on where it will be built. We are doing everything we can to get this factory in Antwerp," says Jacques Beuckelaers in De Standaard.

Jacques Beuckelaers studied electromechanical engineering at our faculty and has been working for Total since 1982. Since October 2017, he has been general manager of Total Antwerp (1,700 employees).
