IBM Innovation award 2020 goes to Bo Kang

(08-07-2020) Researcher Bo Kang has been awarded the IBM Innovation Award 2020.

Researcher Bo Kang of the Internet Technology and Data science Lab (IDLab), has been awarded the annual IBM Innovation Award by the FWO for his PhD thesis. Bo designs algortihms and systems to find representations of data that contrast with the expectations of data scientists. His research is mainly about representation learning, data visualisation and explainable A.I.

IBM Innovation Award

IBM attaches great importance to promoting research in informatics and its applications. Through the patronage of IBM Belgium, the FWO awards an annual "IBM Innovation Award". In recognition of an outstanding PhD thesis that presents an original contribution to informatics or its applications in one of the following fields:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Social Media
  • Analytics & Big Data
  • Mobile Computing
  • Cyber Security
  • Cloud Computing

The informatics part of the work must be both thorough and advanced.
