Concrete bowling ball gives UGent 13th place at The FRC Bowling Ball Competition

(27-03-2018) The team of Campus Schoonmeersen (Ticho Ooms, Pieter Vijverman and Jordi Uyttersprot) achieved a 13th place in the 56 participating teams.

The team of the Schoonmeersen research group won, under the direction of Prof. dr. Luc Taerwe, as 1 of 5 teams a travel fair, was therefore the first European team to represent Ghent University at the FRC Bowling Ball Competition. The aim of the competition was to create a fiber-reinforced concrete bowling ball with a few imposed specifications, such as maximum dimensions, maximum weight and a central center of mass.

Under supervision of Prof. dr. Geert De Schutter, Kizzy Van Meirvenne and ing. Gieljan Vantyghem (Department of Structural Engineering, UGent) earned the team of the Schoonmeersen campus (Ticho Ooms, Pieter Vijverman and Jordi Uyttersprot) 13th out of the 56 participating teams. A good result for a first participation in an international and previously unknown competition.
