Postgraduate programme in Fire Safety Engineering

The fire safety engineer understands and applies fire safety engineering (FSE). According to ISO TR 13387-1, fire safety engineering is the application of engineering principles, rules and expert judgement based on a scientific appreciation of the fire phenomena, of the effects of fire and of the reaction and behaviour of people, in order to:

  • save life, protect property and preserve the environment and heritage;
  • quantify the hazards and risk of fire and its effects;
  • evaluate analytically the optimum protective and preventative measures necessary to limit, within prescribed levels, the consequences of fire.

Postgraduate programme in Management Engineering (taught in Dutch)

This postgraduate study is a techno-MBA in which, in addition to general business management, the operational management of products and services is also discussed. All this is underpinned by analytical and statistical insights, but there is also a lot of attention for soft skills. In this way, this postgraduate expands the field of view of the participants and helps them to grow further in their professional role. The program guarantees an interesting learning environment where the theory is not all thoroughly treated, but also tested against the broad practical experiences in the group. Because the contact sessions are planned outside the working hours, the BIR training can also be perfectly combined with a full-time job.

UGain

Today's technology is constantly revamping itself and the professional world is constantly confronted with earlier burn-outs.

In response to the large demand from industry to provide a structure for lifelong learning, and to support the graduates in their professional life, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Ghent University in 1995 set up the "Institute for Continuing Education" (IVPV). ), now known as UGain (UGent Academy for Engineers).

By organizing intensive training, which reflects the current state of technology and science, UGain bridges the difference in knowledge with young graduates and offers employees with years of experience the opportunity to orient their careers in a new direction. We speak not only of life-long but also of life-wide learning.

The programs are also always accessible to UGent staff with adjusted participation fees.
