Sebastian Verhelst SAE Fellow

(30-05-2025) On 7 April 2025, SAE International honoured Sebastian Verhelst, professor at our faculty, as an SAE Fellow - a prestigious recognition within the mobility sector.
With this title, SAE recognises his important technical contributions to a sustainable transport sector and his pioneering work on the combustion of renewable fuels such as hydrogen and methanol in engines.
Professor Verhelst is making history: he is the first Belgian to be named an SAE Fellow.
SAE Fellow
The title of SAE Fellow is awarded to an elite group of professionals in the automotive, commercial vehicle and aerospace industries who have made a significant impact on mobility through leadership, research, publications, innovation and volunteering. The Fellow degree was established in 1975 and is administered by the SAE Fellows Committee. The election as Fellow is an exceptional professional award given each year to a group of about 20 SAE members.
