Kim Ragaert

Professor Kim Ragaert is a mechanical engineer by background and holds a PhD in plastics processing. She lectures materials science and polymer science to engineering students at Ghent University. Kim is the academic chair of the Plastics to Resource pipeline within CAPTURE, wherein she creates scientific synergies with colleagues from 4 different institutes, active in thermochemical recycling, food packaging, sorting/decontamination, policy, product development and LCA. She is also an associate editor for the journal Waste Management. She is the project leader of C-PlaNeT.

Kim is a strong advocate for the sustainability of plastics, working to bring fact-based nuance into the public debate on plastics.

At the 2020 PRSE event, prof. Kim Ragaert was awarded the prestigious Plastics Recycling Ambassador Award by Plastics Recyclers Europe, in recognition of her significant contributions to the advancement of plastics recycling in Europe.
