Ghent University team win third prize in international fib 3D concrete printing contest! ๐Ÿ†

(22-06-2026)

In June, a team of enthusiastic researchers from our department, composed of Lien Saelens, Sam Coppens, Kito Luyten and Ticho Ooms, participated in an international 3D concrete printing contest. The contest was organized in the context of the 2026 fib Congress in Lisbon, and required the participating teams to design and produce a lightweight 3D printed concrete beam, targeting a flexural load of 60 kN and a considerable amount of flexural energy absorption.

With the ambitious team name โ€˜Ultimate Limit State Championsโ€™ (ULSC), they had no choice but to perform! After the structural testing in the laboratory of the University of Lisbon, they were awarded the third place over a total of 15 participating universities a the closing ceremony of the congress.ย

Congratulations team! Also a big word of thanks to the technical staff of the Magnel-Vandepitte laboratory for their help!ย
