Manu Santhanam: Durability of concrete prepared with ternary binder systems involving limestone

Manu SanthanamAbstract: The use of finely ground limestone as a cement additive is on the rise. Given the potential for additional space filling because of the hydration products involving the carbonates from limestone and the alumina from pozzolanic materials, there are vast implications for the enhancement of durability in such systems. The experimental study described in this paper explores the influence of ternary binder systems involving limestone on the durability properties of concrete. RCC slabs were prepared with Limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) and evaluated for durability properties. The durability parameters investigated include tests on chloride, water and gas penetrability. An attempt is also made to explain the synergistic effect of the ternary blends as compared to the binary systems.
