Xiepeng Sun (joint PhD USTC – UGent) heeft een prestigieuze 3-jaarlijkse 'Best thesis award' van IAFSS (International Association for Fire Safety Science) gewonnen met zijn doctoraat 'Experimental and Theoretical Study on the Ejected Facade Flame Behavior from Compartment Fires under Different Ventilation Conditions' (promotoren: prof. Longhua Hu en prof. Bart Merci).​
