Silvia Ribó will explain how postnatal nutrition determines metabolic health later in life.

Silvia Ribó, a young postdoc from Universitat de Barcelona is our guest. More information on her work:
Events in early life stages play an important role in modulating health in a short- but also in a long-term manner. Postnatal nutrition is key in determining metabolic health during childhood and later during adulthood. Supplementation of the mother’s diet during lactation may have a role in modulating offspring metabolic health. In addition, accelerated postnatal growth rate caused by over-nutrition, can influence adult metabolic health inducing Metabolic Syndrome. In turn, it might be inherited by later generations through possible epigenetic changes occurring in the germ line, such as methylation marks.
