Prof. Heather Viles (University of Oxford) en Prof. Peter Brimblecombe (City University of Hong Kong) will deal with weathering effects of materials (stone, metal, wood and earthen materials) and the management of heritage sites in relation to the environment, illustrated with case studies from Europe and Asia.

As emeritus professor in Atmospheric Chemistry, Prof. Brimblecombe has an excellent track record in the study of air pollution and climate change and their impact on and the management of heritage sites.

Prof. Viles is an expert in weathering and biological interactions for the managing built heritage and improving its resilience.

This lecture is organised in the frame of the Heritage Science and Conservation Summer School on Stone and Environment (Ghent University Doctoral Schools).
