Aseismic slow slip in subduction zones accommodates relative motion of tectonic plates with respect to each other without resulting in earthquakes. Current research attempt to unravel which processes determine whether a slip event is seismic or non-seismic (slow slip). This presentation will unlock new insights in these processes obtained from seismic studies and deep-sea drilling along the north Hikurangi margin, New Zealand
