Panel discussion on contemporary Japanese theatre with Prof Annegret Bergmann, Prof Matthew Shores, and Prof Till Weingärtner.

This panel discussion with 3 international experts on Japanese theatre, will discuss current trends in Japanese performing arts, with a special focus on the role of kata, body, and training in contemporary kabuki, noh, and rakugo.

By concentrating on corporeal practices and semantics coined by bodies we address questions of how practices create, preserve, reproduce, and change collective systems of meaning in contemporary Japan.

Yet another aspect that will be addressed is, how performing bodies expand boundaries, but also create and (re)produce order and knowledge.

The three speakers will each give a short input talk, after which a panel discussion with a Q&A session will follow. We will then give the opportunity to also informally meet with the three speakers.
