During an interactive lecture, dr. Malachi Willis, expert on sexual consent of the University of Glasgow, puts sexual consent into multiple contexts.

Sexual consent (SC) has become core of the new Belgian law on sexual violence, in vigor since June 1st 2022. SC is more complicated than saying yes to sex. Internal consent feelings and external consent communication vary from person to person (gender, age, ethnic disparities…) and context to context (on campus, events with alcohol and/or cannabis intake, in dyadic relationships,…).

During this interactive lecture, dr. Malachi Willis will break down several recent findings to demonstrate how there is more to SC than people often acknowledge.

Dr. Willis will start with a lecture and subsequently actively invite participants from different academic and professional fields to discuss and reflect about how SC can be nuanced in different settings, applicable to Belgian research on sexual violence, care for victims of sexual violence, dealing with (potential) offenders, police and justice.
