Two leading experts of Syriac studies and one junior scholar will discuss their current research on Syriac manuscripts studies and critical editions.

The occasion for convening this workshop is the public doctoral defense of the PhD-dissertation of Giorgia Nicosia, which studies Syriac historiographical excerpt collections in 6th-10th c. manuscripts.

  • Prof Emiliano Fiori (Ca' Foscari) will present a paper entitled: “Reading in Excerpts from Byzantium to the Caliphate: The Workshop of Syriac Florilegia between Transformation and Conservation”.
  • Giovanni Gomiero (Ghent University) will present instead a paper entitled "Following parchment fragments of the lost Mosul Scher 96 (11-12th c.): traces of a recently found".
  • Prof Muriel Debié (EPHE) will also present a paper on her current research.

The other members of the doctoral examination committee, Prof André Binggeli (IRHT, Paris), Prof Dorothea Weltecke (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), Dr. Flavia Ruani (IRHT, Paris), and Dr. Andy Hilkens (University of Florence) will also be present to contribute to the general discussion.
