Reduction of tuition fees

You may be eligible to reduced tuition fees at a study grant or near-study grant rate if you are enrolled under a diploma and/or credit contract.

Submit application

Enrolled with a diploma contract

  • Apply for a study grant as soon as possible after your (re)enrollment as a UGent student.
  • From 02/06/2026 and no later than 01/06/2027 for the 2026-2027 academic year.
  • You submit the application via the ‘study grants e-portal'.
  • Department of Study grants will check if you are eligible for a study grant and/or your entitlement to the study grant or near-study grant tuition fee rate.
  • Department of Study grants will notify us of the decision electronically.

Enrolled with a credit contract

  • Apply for your ‘reduction of tuition fees’ as soon as possible after your (re)enrollment as a UGent student.
  • From 01/09/2026 and no later than 01/06/2027 for the 2026-2027 academic year.
  • You must submit the application via the ‘Social Services student portal’.
  • The Social Services will investigate if you are eligible for the study grant or near-study grant tuition fee rate.

Submit your application before 01/09/2026 via the ‘social services digital student system’.

Eligibility requirements

  • Enrollment with a diploma contract or credit contract.
  • Enrollment in a bachelor's degree, master's degree, educational master's degree, preparatory course or linking course.
  • You are a Belgian national, an EEA student, or a non-EEA student who meets the nationality requirements of the department of Study grants.
  • You meet the financial conditions to be eligible for the study grant or near-study grant tuition fee rate.

Provisional reduced tuition fees

  • You can provisionally pay the grant rate if you apply for reduced tuition fees.
  • The final right to reduced tuition fees depends on the decision of the Department of Study grants or the social services.
