Digital Inter-Institutional Agreements for Erasmus+

Beginning of June 2020 the European Commission announced via the National Agencies that the renewal of agreements in a digital format for the next Erasmus programme is postponed by one year (mobilities funded under the 2022 Calls) and that present agreements remain valid for the first call of the new Erasmus programme (mobilities in 2021/2022 funded under 2021 Calls).

Ghent University would like to inform its (potential) Erasmus+ partners about Inter-Institutional Agreements between Programme Countries in the new programme (for the period 2022/2023 - 2027/2028).

Mid-February the European Commission has launched the "template" for Digital Inter-Institutional Agreements for the new Erasmus programme. Inter-Institutional Agreements should be digitally signed using the Erasmus Without Paper (EWP) infrastructure so the template is for information purposes only.

On this page we’ll share updates about the process and timeline for the renewal process at Ghent University.

Latest update: 11/06/2020.

Erasmus Without Paper infrastructure for agreements

The EWP infrastructure should be used for signing agreements and consists out of two main elements:

  1. The Erasmus+ Dashboard including the Inter-Institutional Agreement Manager
  2. The Erasmus Without Paper Network connecting your own system that includes functionality for creating Inter-Institutional Agreements with the system used by your partner.

In principle you don’t need to worry about the system in use by your institution or Ghent University as we will all be connected via Erasmus Without Paper and systems know what tool is used.

What is important however, is timing.

Ghent University will be connected to EWP for IIAs from March 2021 onwards at latest.

Preparatory work to facilitate the digital signing

In order to prepare a smooth digital signing process of our agreements, it is important to discuss the cooperation conditions beforehand via email (number of students, total number of months, mobility type, subject area code, study cycle and language levels). During the coming weeks, members of the different Ghent University faculty IRO’s will get in contact for this preparatory phase.

Since the infrastructure is not ready yet, we do not sign any agreements yet. Once Ghent University has connected its system for digitally signing agreements to EWP (by March 2021), we’ll update this page and the central IRO will start the online signing procedure via Erasmus Without Paper.

2020 and 2021 calls

The European Commission extended the validity of the current Inter-institutional agreements for KA103 by one year. All current active inter-institutional agreements between  Ghent University and its partners remain valid  for  student  and  staff  mobilities to be organised  under  Erasmus+  KA103  projects,  including  those  that  will  be selected under the 2020 and 2021 Calls (i.e. for mobilities in 2020-2021 and 2021-2022).
