Heating systems turned down to night-time temperature settings during extended period around Christmas recess. Want to help out too?

(20-12-2022) We're lowering CO2 emissions by turning down heating systems to night-time temperature settings at low occupancy-locations for an extended period during Christmas recess. Check out the locations here. Help out by turning down the radiator valves!

How to turn down a thermostatic radiator valve

Normally, your workplace will see little to no occupancy in winter time, especially during Christmas recess. To avoid unnecessary energy usage, it's important that you set individual thermostatic radiator valves to a lower setting. But how do you go about doing this?

  • Turn down the thermostatic radiator valve to position 2.
  • On average, position 2 translates to a temperature of about 16°C. This is sufficient to significantly lower the energy usage of a building.
  • Notice that it is not necessary to turn the radiator valve all the way down to '*' (frost setting).
  • The principal is similar with other types of thermostatic radiator valves.

Heating system buildings on night-time temperature settings

To further avoid unnecessary energy usage, the Department of Infrastructure and Facility Management together with the deans have decided that a number of Ghent University buildings will switch to night-time temperature settings for an extended period of time around Christmas recess: Wednesday evening 22 December up to and including Wednesday evening 5 January.

The following buildings will be set to night-time temperature settings
