Professor Els Van Damme receives International Glycoconjugate Award

(05-02-2021) She was awarded by the International Glycoconjugate Organization for many years of research on plant glycobiology and the application of plant lectines for biomedical research.

Using multidisciplinary approaches and plants as a model, Professor Van Damme’s laboratory has made seminal contributions on the role of carbohydrate binding proteins for plant growth and stress tolerance in changing environments.

In addition, her pioneering work on lectinology has helped not only developing new technologies used in solving the intricacies of glycan structures but also targeting, understanding and treating many human diseases, including HIV-AIDS, cancer and COVID-19.
