Majority of PhD holders view their doctorate as added value in non-academic job market

(15-12-2020) A large majority of PhD holders continue their career outside of academia and they view their PhD as an advantage in the non-academic job market.

Research conducted by ECOOM (The Centre for Research & Development Monitoring) at Ghent University has shown that a large part of PhD holders continues their career outside of academia. ECOOM-Ghent University mapped the different career paths of PhD holders in Flanders and shed some light on the advantages a doctorate grants its holder. Among other things, it also looked into employment sectors and if the PhD holder is still involved in research. The research was financed by the Flemish government and will serve as input to determine their policy.
