200 years Ghent University: alumni authors return to the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy

(05-10-2017) Starting on 8 October 2017, a series of lectures will take place in the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, presented by alumni authors who attended courses in the faculty.

These authors have either already created their literary oeuvres or are about to embark upon their literary careers. Writers like Herman Brusselmans, Johan de Boose, Heleen Debruyne, Stefan Hertmans, Pol Hoste, Tom Lanoye, Els Moors, Miriam Van hee, and Guido van Heulendonk are returning to the faculty to give a series of lectures. They will be reflecting on the societal role of the university then and now, and be reading pieces from their own body of works.

The language and literature students (Filologica) were closely involved in the initiative and are researching and/or communicating with the writers.

A total of 19 writers will be paying their respects during the 2017-2018 academic year. Tom Lanoye will get us started on 8 October during 'Everyone Ghent University!' (Blandijnberg 2, 2 p.m. in auditorium 5 Jeanne Wiemer).

The other lectures will take place on Tuesday evenings, from 8 to 10 p.m., in auditorium 2 Franz Cumont (Blandijnberg 2).
