Bart Dessein elected President of the European Association for Chinese Studies

(30-08-2016) At the general meeting of the European Association for Chinese Studies (EACS) in St. Petersburg on 27 August, Professor Bart Dessein (Department of Languages ​​and Cultures) was elected its new president.

EACS is a registered international organization in Paris that represents Sinologists and China specialists and promotes sinological studies. The EACS was at its inception limited to Europe, but currently there are approximately 600 members, including numerous American, Asian and Australian academics.

Among EACS activities are the organization of a biennial conference and a biennial summer school. EACS provides a biennial Young Scholar Award and manages a Library Travel Fund, which financially supports young researchers. The organization also operates an extensive internet platform for China related academic activities.

Professor Bart Dessein is a member of EACS since 1987 and was between 2008 and 2014 member of the executive committee. The statutory limit for the presidency is two years and can be extended twice by two years.
