Ghent University will recrute Chinese students in their own language

(12-12-2016) Starting from 2017, Ghent University wil significantly strengthen its student recruitment with targeted campaigns via the Chinese social media.

The aim is to recruit both bachelor students for the Ghent University Global Campus in South Korea and master and doctoral students for the campus in Ghent.

Our university will develop an official website in Chinese and will actively use Chinese social media such as WeChat, Sina Weibo, Youku... The importance of social media in the daily life of Chinese adolescents and their parents can hardly be overestimated.

Why China? It's a logical decision, because Ghent University welcomes around 350 Chinese students each year. At this moment, there are 352 Chinese students, of whom 80 % doctoral students.

More than 30 Chinese students and alumni will help to develop, use and maintain a channel with relevant information about our university, in order to reach the Chinese general audience. They know China the best and can provide useful knowledge to convince students to choose for Ghent University.

10 years China Platform

The active recruitment of Chinese students fits into the years of good relations between Ghent University and the Chinese partners. The China Platform is the central point of contact within Ghent University for all China-related issues since 2006. The Platform supports cooperation initiatives from our university and external partners, both in terms of research and education.

On Monday 12 December, the China Platform celebrates its tenth birthday with a 'China day' in Ghent, including different lectures and debates about China.
