Heritage Open Days … visit the Aula, Het Pand, and Campus Bruges

(06-09-2017) On Heritage Open Days on Sunday 10 September 2017, you can visit the Aula and Het Pand. Campus Bruges, in which Ghent University is a partner in the UNU-CRIS, is participating in the Heritage Open Days.

Aula Academica

Following the installation of a university in the city, founded in 1817, the Ghent city authorities decided that a ‘Palace of the University’ must be built that would harmonise with the extensive city renovation that was planned. Architect Louis Roelandt designed a neoclassical building front portal with a Greek appearance, a spacious peristyle, and a rotunda hall with coffered ceiling. The building was opened in 1826 and, to this day, it remains the preferred location for official ceremonies, honorary doctorates, proclamations, and so on for the UGent.

You can visit the Aula on the Heritage Open Days. Among other locations, the ceremonial hall and the peristyle with the meridian line are certainly worth a look!
