Again no two-thirds majority in elections for rector and vice-rector

(22-06-2017) Today 22 June at 8 am the second voting round in the second cycle of the elections for a new rector and vice-rector at our university ended.

The candidate duo Professor Rik Van de Walle and Professor Mieke Van Herreweghe did not achieve the required two-thirds majority of the votes. They achieved in this voting round a weighted result of 60.34% of the votes, their best result in these elections. The voter turnout was higher than in the first voting round of this cycle.

Rik Van de Walle and Mieke Van Herreweghe withdraw from the second voting cycle. Consequently the election committee has closed this voting cycle. The Board of Governors of Ghent University will now establish the further course of the elections.
