Time off for ‘Everyone Ghent University!’ and anniversary ball

(06-09-2017) On Monday morning, 9 October, Ghent University will have time off. No academic activities will take place.

This will allow all staff members and students to participate fully in the activities during 'Everyone Ghent University!' and shake a leg at the anniversary ball.

By now, it can’t have escaped anyone … Ghent University is celebrating its 200th anniversary. The highpoint of this festive year is 8 and 9 October 2017. Everyone will be a UGent’er during a free and lively city festival where both young and old can enjoy discovering new things and experiences. Everyone Ghent University! will end with a cracking finale in the Studentenplein with performers Lady Linn, Jef Neve, Sioen, and Big Band ‘t Mouvement. In the evening, students have organised The Anniversary Ball in the ICC Ghent. The day after, 9 October, on Monday afternoon, the official start of the academic year will take place in the Aula … exactly 200 years after Ghent University was founded.

Rector Anne De Paepe: ‘On 8 and 9 October, it will be party, party, party at Ghent University with lots of activities for and by our UGent’ers. It goes without saying that we are extremely proud of all UGent’ers that put on these festivities. And, we would really like it if everyone could take part in it fully. Therefore we grant exceptional time off on Monday morning 9 October to celebrate the anniversary of Ghent University. This allows the entire community to attend 'Everyone Ghent University!', the finale, and the Anniversary Ball. Because we want to celebrate the anniversary of Ghent University together with everyone!’
