Rector Rik Van de Walle re-elected as president of European university association CESAER

(15-10-2021) Rector of Ghent University Rik Van de Walle has been re-elected as president of CESAER, a non-profit that unites more than 50 universities at the European level.

It is an honor to become president for a second term of an important and influential university network in Europe. Over the past two years we have seen our network grow. We reach more and more staff at our members. Moreover, our voice is being heard – we are making more impact on the international stage than ever before. Rik Van de Walle, rector Ghent University.

On 14 and 15 October 2021, the representatives of the more than 50 universities are meeting online. During this international meeting, the general assembly re-elected Rik Van de Walle as president for a period of two years (2022-2023).Besprekingen bij CESAER met Rik Van de Walle

The main objective of the universities who are part of CESAER is to collaborate constructively with each other and to help shape the European research and education policy. The presidency ensures high visibility of Ghent University in Brussels and Europe, both among policymakers and other educational institutions. The CESAER presidency of its rector is therefore also important for Ghent University as a whole.
