Waste collection points

(11-03-2020) You might have noticed already, but since the start of 2020 trash collection at Ghent University has slightly changed.

The blue ‘PMD’ fraction (plastic bottles, metal packaging and drink containers) has expanded to more types of plastic packaging. This means that plastic foils, bags, candy wraps, yogurt containers, trays, etc. no longer belong to the black residual waste fraction but should be tossed in the blue PMD+ fraction.

Please remove the foils from containers and trays first. You can then toss them in the blue container separately. Cans, bottle caps, aluminum trays, empty spray cans from food and cosmetics, bottles and flasks still belong to this fraction.

Afvaleiland Waste collection points

Did you already spot the new waste collection points? From now on you can also toss unsoiled paper and food waste into the respective yellow and green containers. This way even less materials end up being incinerated.

In the meantime we’re also working on using more reusable materials. You can also help by using reusable cups or bottles. Because preventing waste is even better than recycling.
