Project description
Contagious pathogens can spread from one farm to another and also from one production area to another, and finally from one country to another. Therefore, prevention and biosecurity must be considered from the local to the national and international level. There is lack of information available between different countries on the biosecurity status of the poultry farming sector in order to meet the challenges that the producers face for sustaining their farms. The adoption and implementation of biosecurity practices is driven by advisors, which can be veterinarians, technicians or feed suppliers, as well as other farmers. The NETPOULSAFE project focuses on supporting measures to efficiently foster the compliance of biosecurity measures, and therefore targets both farmers and advisors as main effectors as well as influencers to encourage cross-fertilization of knowledge and sharing of good practices. Hence the ultimate goal is strategic networking of EU Poultry production sectors to share good practices.
Objectives of NETPOULSAFE
These are the objectives of NETPOULSAFE
- To achieve high impact on the biosecurity of the European poultry sector through an integrated approach
- Analyzing current biosecurity practices in poultry production
- Demonstrating the benefit of biosecurity
- To enlarge scientific network and knowledge exchange platform
- Digitalization of the knowledge collected and making it accessible to European poultry farmers
Role of Ghent University
Ghent University is leader of WP3 of the project and is contributing to many different tasks in the project. Besides we will act as promotor for several phd students. has an active role in the project and the professors act as promoters for the PhD students that will be trained during the project.
WP of UGent: Evaluation of supporting measures to improve the compliance of biosecurity
Task for UGent : Extension of Biocheck.ugent scoring tool (for breeders, turkey, ducks, backyard poultry)
