Job description

Within UGent, you will strengthen a dynamic team of researchers; you will become a part of the Industrial Design team and the MICT research group (Media, Innovation & Communication Technologies). Within this team you participate in the implementation of the ProMoW project. This includes the organization of user research, the implementation of various steps in the innovation and design process and providing guidance to students. Are you interested in research with and on new technologies? Are you challenged by combining academic research with hands-on prototyping? Then you are probably the person we are looking in order to strengthen our team.

  • You work with new (Internet or Things) technologies that we integrate into product designs.
  • You work on a concrete research project with an applied finality.
  • In addition, you work on other projects within the field of smart products.
  • You are the person who can do the ‘translation’ between engineers, designers, users and other stakeholders.
  • You get a varying task package in a stimulating, creative work and learning environment.

Profile of the candidate

  • Master of Engineering (Industrial Design, Electronics-ICT) or Master of Design Sciences.
  • You are able to independently participate in a research project.
  • You are not afraid to work hands-on and to apply your creativity in making prototypes during the workshops.
  • You have knowledge of and interest in new technologies including IoT, wearables, sensors, ...
  • You are able to conduct research with several stakeholders at different locations (in Gent and Kortrijk).
  • You have good writing and presentation skills in both Dutch and English.
  • You have a critical attitude and are always looking for challenges.
  • You are able to combine and validate academic and practical knowledge.
