Job description

At the department of Electrical Energy, Metals, Mechanical Constructions and Systems (EEMMeCS) of Ghent University, wind energy is an important research topic. Currently, there is a research project ongoing to investigate the dynamic control of small and medium wind turbines. These turbines experience a strong volatile and chaotic wind speed, which makes it a challenging task to optimise their control system in order to harvest a maximum of energy. Advanced control concepts are currently being developed which have proven to increase the energy harvesting in simulation. Recently, a new test-setup was constructed in the lab to validate these control concepts. We are looking for a motivated engineer to implement the control concepts on this setup and perform the experimental validation.

Profile of the candidate

You have a master degree in engineering, preferably in electromechanical, electrical or control engineering. You must be motivated, creative and interested in academic research. You have an affinity with both experimental research and simulations in Matlab/Simulink. You must be sufficiently fluent in English or Dutch.

You must be available on a short term. The initial contract duration will be between 1 and 1,5 years, in which you are hired as a PhD researcher. This period can be extended to a full PhD research period depending on the results of the initial research period.

How to apply

Send your CV and motivation letter to jeroen.dekooning@ugent.be. If you pass the pre-selection, you will be invited for a job interview, possibly via Skype.
