Job description

Position: PhD student in the AI Flanders Research Program The research group Database, Document and Content Management (DDCM) has major expertise in information management, Big Data, and computational intelligence and is participating in the AI Flanders Research Program as expert in AI-assisted Data Acquisition and Pre-processing, more specifically in data quality assessment and enhancement. We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student to join our team, from October 1st 2019 onwards. The PhD student has to develop novel techniques for the automatic detection of data anomalies and study the propagation of data quality during data processing. Moreover, she/he will investigate how computational intelligence, more specifically fuzzy logic and soft computing, can be applied for modelling and processing data quality in a more human-centric way. Close cooperation with other research teams from UGent, KULeuven and UAntwerpen is required.

Profile of the candidate

• Master in Computer Science Engineering, Master of Science in Computer Science, or equivalent.

• A motivation for conducting scientific research with a view to defending a PhD.

• Demonstrable skills and interest in information management, the handling of imperfect data and artificial or computational intelligence is an asset.

• Programming experience and mathematical skills (logic and analytics).

• Language skills: Excellent written and spoken English; a good command of Dutch is an asset.

• Generic competences: Proactive, communicative, accurate, able to work independently and in team.
