Job description

Full-time PhD Position in Lab of Plant Growth Analysis – Ghent University Global Campus, Korea

  • Assist his/her supervisor in teaching undergraduate courses at Ghent University Global Campus, Korea (general biology, plant biology, molecular biology, plant physiology).
  •  Conduct plant molecular biological research in the area of plant development, with a particular focus on stimulation of cell elongation by biostimulants, and the modus operandi thereof (for example, but not limited to) furthering existing research lines with regards to follow-up of RNA sequencing, GWAS analysis, EMS mutagenesis, hormonal cross-talk etc.
  • Assist his/her supervisor with tasks in ongoing and future R&D projects.

Profile of the candidate

  • Hold, or expect to hold, by September 2019, an MSc degree in one of the following disciplines: biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, systems biology, agricultural sciences or bio-engineering (cell and gene technology). Exceptional candidates from other science/engineering backgrounds will also be considered.
  • Have a strong biological background, a good knowledge of molecular biology, and a high level of comfort with lab-based research.
  • Be highly motivated to conduct research in the area of bio(techno)logy.
  • Experience with plant bio(techno)logical research is a plus.
  • Have an excellent academic track record.
  • Have an excellent command of English (a minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL iBT test), both written and orally.
  • Knowledge of the Korean language is a plus.
  • Possess good academic writing and presentation skills.
  • Have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in case the candidate does not have the Korean nationality (visa requirement Korean government).
  • Have the willingness to work flexible hours if needed and occasionally participate in events outside of the regular working hours.
