Job description

A PhD grant for research in human-like artificial intelligence focusing on machine listening is available at Ghent University from Jan 1st 2020. The PhD should focus on mimicking human auditory perception of the environment including the people present to improve the situational awareness of AI systems. This will eventually lead to more engaging and more efficient interactions between humans and machines. The PhD researcher will be part of a large Flemish initiative on Artificial Intelligence including 100+ researchers distributed over the main universities in Belgium. On a daily basis, she/he will interact with the group of about 40 PhD students at UGent working on this initiative. Profile of the candidate

Candidates should have a strong track record in machine learning, artificial intelligence, artificial neural networks, and/or robotics. To enrol in the PhD program, a master degree is required. Preferably, this degree should be in artificial intelligence, computer science, informatics, but candidates with a degree in other disciplines of engineering are also welcomed. Their curriculum should prove an interest in hearing and listening. Prior interdisciplinary work combining human factors and AI is a strong advantage.
