On 14/12/2016 we organised ‘Inspirerend event - Hoe kan uw onderzoek toegepast worden in de sector van wind/ocean energy’. One of the aspects that was discussed, was the element of simulation at wind turbine system level. Recently, researchers of EA08 started to use FAST, a tool to simulate the behavior of a complete wind turbine. A new employee, employed on an IOF project, could leverage on experience with this tool in his previous career. These researchers will organize a workshop and give a demo. This way we are following up on an action defined last year.

The general principle of FAST will be explained and several hands-on demo's are given. Using FAST, we can simulate a complete wind turbine including the 3D wind flow, the blades, nacelle, tower, generator, mechanical loads, foundation, the power-electronics and the control system. Besides showing how we use it in our own research, we will emphasize links with other research topics such as wind flow simulation, blade design and mechanical loads. The aim of the workshop is to find topics to collaborate in wind energy research.
