Beatriz Bermúdez, the Russia Platform’s visiting fellow talks about her stay at Ghent University
In February - March Russia Platform hosted visiting fellow Beatriz Bermúdez. She conducted her research at the the Department of Experimental Psychology at Ghent University under supervision of professor Marc Brysbaert.
Beatriz Bermúdez-Margaretto is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Experimental Psychology of University of Salamanca, in Spain. Her research is focuses on reading and novel word learning processes in the first and the second language.
Two years ago, in 2020, she obtained a visiting fellowship sponsored by the Russia Platform at Ghent. At that time, she was a research post-doctoral fellow at the Higher School of Economics (Moscow, Russia) and found this opportunity really appealing and interesting for her research career. The internship was unfortunately postponed until 2022 due to COVID situation.
She has managed to achieve valuable research results during her stay at the Faculty: ‘We have successfully developed new tools for language research in Spanish by means of translating and validating different tests (vocabulary, reading comprehension, general knowledge). We are planning to continue this fruitful collaboration and soon publish the results of this work in a peer-reviewed, high impact factor journal. Moreover, we are aiming to extend this work to the Russian language once the circumstances allow it, further increasing the tools for cross-language research”.
‘The stay at UGent has been very pleasant, and really easy and smooth in terms of logistics and administration’, - Beatriz testifies. She also enjoyed the lively environment at the department of experimental psychology. This has given her the opportunity to attend different research activities and discuss various topics with several colleagues from different points of view.
We thank Beatriz for your stay at Ghent University and wish you good luck!
