Research & publications

Focus, main objectives and results

  • Residues of drugs (e.g. nitrofurans) and contaminants (e.g. acrylamide) in food, feed, animal tissues and fluids.
  • Detection of banned antibacterial growth promoters in animal feed.
  • Polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs) in human and animal adipose tissue.
  • Confirmation and identification of synthetic glucocorticoids in bovine tissues.
  • Development of immunochemical field tests and LC-MS/MS technology for mycotoxin analysis.
  • Research on mycotoxin production in buildings for the prevention of the Sick Building Syndrome.
  • Research on the interaction between mycotoxins and other food contaminants.

Future perspectives

One of the major future perspectives is the use of liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometric detection in a number of research fields. The most important result of such an implementation is obviously the fact that the application area of mass spectrometry can be substantially extended, also toward molecules wich were up to now "MS-phobic".

Another future perspective is situated in the development of new immunochemical techniques, antibodies and antibody alternatives.
