Summary of Research Project(s)

The research of Jing is focused on the intracellular delivery of contrast agents by photoporation, especially by the laser-induced vapor nanobubble (VNB) delivery method.
Plasmonic nanoparticles like gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) become heated after absorbing a short pulses of laser light. The water around the AuNPs will evaporate resulting in the formation ofwater vapour nanobubbles. When the thermal energy of the AuNPs is consumed, the VNB violently collapses causing local perforation of the cell membrane to which the AuNPs was attached. Compounds like contrast agents that are present in the cell medium can then enter into the cells through these transient membrane pores.
