Biography
Stephan Stremersch obtained the degree master in Drug Development (Pharmaceutical sciences) in 2012 at Ghent University with greatest distinction. For his master thesis (Ultrasound as a key component to selective antitumor therapy: ‘Liposome-coated microbubbles’ and ‘Sonodynamic therapy’) he was awarded with the ‘Prize of pharmacy 2011’ (a national inter-university competition to reward the best pharmaceutical thesis). In 2012, he started as a doctoral student at the Lab of General Biochemistry and Physical Pharmacy at Ghent University. His doctoral research mainly focused on the evaluation of Extracellular Vesicles both in a therapeutic context as a siRNA delivery vehicle as well as in a diagnostic setting. For this research Stephan received a personal fellowship from the scientific research foundation Flanders (FWO). After obtaining his PhD in 2016, he started as a post-doctoral researcher in the same group where he currently focusses on the development of a Raman-based diagnostic platform for Extracellular Vesicle analysis. In addition Stephan is involved in IP management and valorization of different technologies developed within the research group.
