Biography

Education:

Toon Brans obtained the degree of Master in Photonics Engineering in 2010 at Ghent University with great distinction. In the same year he started as a doctoral student at the Department of Electronics and Information System at Ghent University. His research, under the supervision of prof. dr. ir. Filip Beunis and prof. dr. ir. Kristiaan Neyts, involved the development of optical tweezing electrophoresis for quantitative and label-free biomarker detection. For this research Toon received a personal grant from Institute for the Promotion of Innovation through Science and Technology (IWT). After obtaining his PhD in Photonics Engineering in 2015 he joined the Laboratory for General Biochemistry and Physical Pharmacy at Ghent University as a post-doctoral assistant.
