Besides the fundamental research programs, there is also a clear connection to translational research. Innovative, in-house developed technologies are used for large-scale studies: proteomics and interactomics programs offer new applications in the field of biomarkers and the development of new therapeutics.

Through an extensive network of national and international collaborations, links to (pre) clinical research are in place.

In the field of education, the Department provides mostly courses in basic sciences to students following
